Holiday Gift Guide
With gift-giving season right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to come up with a gift guide based around a few of our fabulous members’ books. As the holidays are fast approaching, we would love to encourage you to support your favorite local indie bookstore when making a purchase!
Now for the fun bit! I personally love a good themed gift basket or gift set. Here are a few to help you brainstorm the perfect present. Whether you’re looking to give a thank you gift to a beloved teacher, wanting an engaging way to get your little ones interested in a new book, or wanting to surprise that book lover in your life, a picture book is a beautiful gift no matter their age.
The Gabi That Girma Wore by Fasika Adefris and Sara Holly Ackerman, and illustrated by Nestanet Tesfay
“From seed to harvest, from loom to shop, to a gift for Girma, this lyrical story of the Ethiopian Gabi is a beautiful celebration of weaving, community, and culture.”

This beautiful picture book is a great way to introduce weaving on a loom. Engage any reader and get their creative juices flowing with this hands-on craft. The Wooden Multi-Craft Weaving Loom paired with The Gabi That Girma Wore is sure to be a winning combination this holiday season!
Tricky Chopsticks by Sylvia Chen and Fanny Liem
“A young Chinese American girl uses creative STEAM-powered problem-solving to master chopsticks, so she can pick up her dumplings and eat them, too, in this charming and laugh-out-loud picture book.”

Do you have a little one who wants to learn to use chopsticks? This adorably fun picture book is the perfect way to encourage them through all the fumbles along the way. Tricky Chopsticks paired with assisted-training chopsticks or a pretend-play dim sum set is a gift set that is sure to be a winning combination.
I Am Both by Kerisa Greene
“A picture book inspired by the author’s family’s journey on the last flight out of Saigon, I Am Both is a compelling exploration of identity, immigration, and family.”

Are you looking for a way to explore new cultures or open a discussion about where your family is from? I Am Both is a great way to talk about, “I am from…” and learn about new places on this Interactive Adventures Globe or have fun playing with this adorable Felt Bánh Mì set.
Peaches by Gabriele Davis and Kim Holt
“In Peaches, a hopeful multigenerational story of love and healing, a girl holds her mother’s memory close while carrying on an important family tradition: making peach cobbler together.”

This heart warming picture book is perfect for the little (or big) baker in your life. Pair Peaches with an adorable Peach-Themed Child’s Apron and Kitchen Accessories with this mess free Build-Your-Own Felt Pie for the sweetest gift combination!
Henna Is… by Marzieh Abbas and Any Chouhan
“Henna is so much more than a form of temporary body art. Henna is nature—seeds sprouted into shrubs, leaves kissed by tropical rain. Henna is color—the orange of juicy mangoes, sun-kissed brown, or black as the feathers of crows. Henna is fragrance—earthy and nutty, lemony and clove-y.”
Whether you’re introducing the art of henna or already have a henna-loving fanatic at home, this book is sure to fill your little (or big) one with imagination. Ignite their inner artist with Henna Is… and pair the gift with this Henna Deluxe Set and Henna Coloring Book.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this short gift guide to just a few of the amazing books from our talented team here at KidLit Works. The goal is to inspire you this holiday season with a few different gifting ideas that creatively pair with some pretty incredible picture books. I wish we could have highlighted all of our creators’ amazing books, but this should hopefully spark some ideas and get you in the gift-giving spirit.
Happy Holidays!
